Sir John Barrow (1764-1848) was an English explorer and the Private Secretary to Lord Macartney whilst he was Ambassador to China. He would later become a founder member and vice-president to the Royal Geographical Society. The official account of Lord Macartney's voyage to the Qianlong Emperor of China 1792-94 was published as Sir George Staunton's 'An Authentic Account of an Embassy from the King of Great Britain to the Emperor of China'.
