The last few leaves show an old damp stain on the fore edge. The text block otherwise clean and crisp. First published in 1649 by Elzevier. The text was contributed by a number of writers in both prose and verse, criticising the conduct of the religious wars at the end of the 16th century.

[7] heavy card leaves which hinge on stubs. The contents which are all window mounted comprise a painted and decorated title page within ruled and ornate gilt borders; rubricated presentation statement 'We, the undersigned, your esteemed Father's tenants,tradesmen, friends and neighbours ...'; four leaves of names in double columns; painted device on the final leaf. 33 x 29 cms. Handsomely bound in grained black morocco. The bevelled boards panelled with multiple rolls in blind and gilt, with the title lettered on the front board. Closed by a central brass clasp. Decorative embossed endpapers, the turn ins with a wide gilt roll. Faint spotting of the contents. The binding is in fine, bright condition. The final leaf carries a neat inscription 'Charles James Saxby, Bookseller, Leominster'. He is listed in Littlebury's Directory and Gazetteer of Herefordshire, 1876-7 as SAXBY CHARLES JAMES, book and music seller, printer, binder, stationer, newsagent, circulating library, and sub-distributor of stamps; agent for the South Wales Atlantic steam ship company, and for the Dominion steam ship company; Stamp office, 13 High street. He may have acted as an agent for a trade bindery in either Worcester or Birmingham. This is a handsome example of the work produced in a provincial workshop.
