Printed note on the title verso states 'One hundred copies all for presentation'. Bradford founded the Philadelphia Journal in December 1742 and was appointed the official printer to the Congress in Philadelphia at its first meeting in 1774.

Bound in nineteenth century half calf with green cloth boards. Neatly rebacked, with a contrasting label and raised bands. Ownership inscription dated 1841 and later stamp to front endpapers. Title page a little dusty, otherwise a clean, crisp copy. Two blank leaves before the title of the Responsio. Andrewes argues strongly against the Catholic position on transubstantiation, the celebration of the eucharist, the intercession of the saints and the nature and prerogatives of papal supremacy.

7 volumes. Typeset facsimiles of editions published c.1770s by G. Peacock. 21 cms (Vol. 4 is 20 cms). Uniformly bound in cloth backed boards with a volume number on the spine. Volume 4 has blue boards instead of grey and is dusty with signs of use, the other volumes all clean and crisp. They were printed by John Camden Hotten c.1870 and given a series title 'Library Illustrative of social Progress. From the original editions collected by Henry Thomas Buckle'. Ashbee later claimed they were reprinted from originals in his own collection. These appear to be pirated reprints c.1900 of the Hotten printing.
