Binding: Hardback
8vo. vii,[1],29,[1]p. Collates A - D4 (- D4, blank.) List of Subscribers. Disbound. Small blank corner lost from the head of the title page, not affecting text. Pen trials on the blank verso of the final leaf. Similar to ESTC T98166. The first issue, with no p. viii. This unrecorded variant has a differently set title page with the reading 'as Windsor' for 'at Windsor'. A revised issue also appeared in 1753, and is held by L. only. The machinations by which Mr. Thorne and his wife were deprived of her rightful inheritance were worthy of a Dickens novel. The five page list of Subscribers make it clear that Thorne's plight aroused much sympathy in London, Cambridge and Suffolk.
