Old dampstains on the edges of the first and last leaves. A soundly bound and very useable copy of the fullest text of the essays with 58 essays and Of the Colours of Good and Evil which has its own part title.

4to. 323, [9] p. 32 woodcuts (27 full page). Contemporary calf binding panelled in multiple rolls with gilt tooling in the panels, over bevelled wooden boards. Lettered on the front board LAZA . BA / YFII . IN . L Rebacked. The leather on the boards chipped with loss, more so on the lower board. Evidence of clasps. The text block is clean and tight. Four parts. Second edition of Baif's works on classical culture, namely on Ships, Costume and on Vases, published a year after Estienne's Paris edition. The woodcuts are copied from Trajan's Column and other classical mouments and probably emanated from Tory's workshop. Telesio's essay on Colour is the first post-Classical exposition of cthe subject and lists 115 colour terms. It was first published in 1528. Ownership inscriptions on the title page of the Jesuits at Ingolstadt, with marginal annotations throughout. Old library shelfmark on the front pastedown and the armorial bookplate of John Rowdwn Freme.
