Following the end of the Second World War, the Vaad's activities, centered in Germany and France, consisted of distributing funds and shipments of food and religious books to Displaced Persons camps in Germany and newly established yeshivot. It provided spiritual rehabilitation to remnants of Jewish communities destroyed during the Holocaust. Publication of Aryeh Leib ben Asher Gunzberg (Gintsburg) (1695-1785) responsa titled Sha’agat Aryeh (The Roar of the Lion; first published 1755) . “The work brought him lasting recognition and has been republished at least 40 times since; it is still considered to be an essential text of rabbinic learning. Sha’agat Aryeh rejected the use of pilpul he had once indulged in and insisted on a direct approach of the Talmudic text with no special attention given to the contributions of the sixteenth–eighteenth-century authors. ” - YIVO Encyclopedia.
