An important, rare Johnsonia.

A large, fanciful mezzotint of the first meeting of James Boswell and Dr. Samuel Johnson. They stand in a comfortable panelled dining room, Boswell bows low, hat in hand, while Johnson leans over the back of a chair, hand held out. Johnson's usual circle of friends are seated around the table, wineglasses in hand. The Irish painter Eyre Crowe (1824 - 1910), was a cousin of the novelist W. M. Thackeray. He settled in London with his family in 1844, specialising in historical and genre scenes.
