Being the further adventures of
"Steeley" Delaroy, gentleman adventurer, sometime air-smuggler,more recently unofficial police agent.Told by his war-time comrade, and partner in his adventures,Captain "Tubby" Wilde.
Curiousity aroused by the finding in a Paris cafe of a newspaper from which a small news paragraph had been cut led
'Tubby' Wilde and Brian Ballantyne to the discovery of a murder in a pension in Montparnasse,
where they also find their old friend
'Steeley' Delaroy, who had apparently joined forces with 'Slick' Ferrara - gunman, killer and Public Enemy No.1 in his own State of Texas.
They learn that Steeley's motive is to find his fiancee Virginia Marven, whom Ferrara is holding to ransom.A bout of gunplay,a clash with the police and a thrilling escape leads Tubby and Brian to the gang's headquarters in an old tin mine
on Dartmoor, where a clue is found which sends them post-haste to a villa in Monte Carlo.
Here Virginia Marven is found and her rescue effected after an exciting gun-fight resulting in the death of 'Slick' Ferrara and most of the gang.
