THOMSON, Thomas. A SYSTEM OF CHEMISTRY in Four Volumes. Edinburgh: Bell and Bradfute, 1802. FGirst edition. Four 8vo. volumes. Volumes I-III have one plate each. Thomson was Professor of Chemistry first at the University of Edinburgh and then at the University of Glasgow. He invented the saccharometer, and edited the Supplement to the third edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica. The System of Chemistry went into more than six editions in Britain and America. Library markings. Text leaves clean but for some occasional light foxing; plates foxed. Bound in early tree calf, rubbed and worn at extremities, with small losses to spine ends and two hinges starting. Rare.
