Tourgee (1838-1905) was an American writer, lawyer, politician, and diplomat. He advocated for civil rights, founded the National Citizens' Rights Association, established a historically black women's college (Bennett College), and litigated for Homer Plessy in the Plessy v. Ferguson case. This book is a historical fiction novel about Button's Inn, which was once located between Barcelona and Chautauqua Lake in real-life New York, and Mormons during the nineteenth century.
