Signed and inscribed by the author to Perry Molstad in black ink on front free endpaper. Inscription reads, "Just a collection of run-of-the-mine [mill?] Fables turned out in my busy syndicating period. George Ade - 1941; Inscribed for Perry Molstad." Original publisher's beige cloth binding with fine illustrated decorations on front cover and spine. Protected in mylar. 4 1/2" x 6 3/4." 154 pages, complete. Black-and-white plates, complete. Former owner's bookplate tipped in on front pastedown: "Peter Molstad." The bookplate shows a black-and-white illustration of a deer with a book propped open between its antlers. Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Slight rubbing to the head and tail of spine and slight corner wear. A Very Good copy. George Ade (1866-1944) was an American writer, humorist, and newspaper columnist. He is best-known for his humorous short stories that use street language, slang, and capitalization of letters for stylistic effect. His stories are often about average American folk who find themselves in comedic situations. This book features a collection of humorous fables. A "moral" is listed at the end of each story. A few of the fables by title: "The Fable of the Lonesome Trolley-Riders and their Quest of Harmless Amusement," "The Fable of the Poor Woman Who Had to Live in a House That Was Over-run by Anecdotes," "The Fable of Another Brave Effort to Infuse Gentility into our Raw Civilization," "The Fable of the Never-to-be Benefactor Who Took a Brand-New Tack," and "The Fable of the Old Fox and the Young Fox.".
