106 pages (complete). In Afrikaans throughout. This memoir by South African diplomat (Ambassador to Canada and Washington during the 1950s) and administrator is comfortable and neat. Included: Of MUCH interest are a number of letters du Plessis wrote to his friend, the journalist David Friedman (who was working for SAPA at the time). 1. From Ottawa dated 23.11.'55, with envelope ; 2. From Ottawa dated 3.12.'55 ; 3. From Washington dated 12.4.57 (the draft of the telegram mentioned is also included) ; 4. From Washington dated 22 Julie 1957. All are handwritten and signed 'Wennie du Plessis'. Also included is an invitation for David Friedman to a Mayoral luncheon to 'say goodbye to Mrs Dora Sowden, the Cinema and Music Critic of the Rand Daily Mail' on 29th December 1966. The invitation is signed by Dora Sowden. Press clippings are attached. Also include are number of press cuttings about Dora Sowden and her husband Lewis. There are two press clippings from 'The Citizen' newspaper from 1980 that are of a more political nature. 'The Citizen' was a secretly State funded newspaper to oppose the Rand Daily Mail. The book has a friendly gift inscription to David Friedman (not from the author). The dustjacket has a clear cellophane protective cover. The dj is neat with some light wear and scuffing. The boards are neat and tidy. The contents are in excellent condition. The pages are clean, clear, very certain and comfortable. A well maintained and contented copy. fk. Book Condition: Near Fine.
