Gardner (1905-1977) was an American author and diesel machinist and inspector for the Maine Central Railroad. He is perhaps best-known for his Bantan series of novels which were highly inspired by Edgar Rice Burroughs's Tarzan. Bantan is a warrior-like protagonist who has many adventures and faces numerous perils on hidden islands in the South Pacific. In this novel, Bantan finds himself on a mysterious island where the prehistoric era still reigns supreme. Bantan must battle dinosaurs and other ferocious creatures. Three women have also fallen in love with Bantan, a marooned pilot named Tama; Mena, a woman of a lost race; and Zarna, a fierce "Amazonian" leader.. Illustr.: Prosser, David. Book.
