8vo; original blue cloth; no dustwrapper; pp. (viii) + 196; frontispiece portrait. Inscription on the ffep by the author to a Miss Davies reads: "A new link in my chain of memories. The Author. Rand Club. Johannesburg 7th December 1947". Cloth sunned on spine and a bit stained. Trace of foxing to prelims; spotting to top edge. Good condition. Autobiography. The author describes his early days in Burghersdorp, Cape Colony, as well as the build-up to the Anglo-Boer War. He was in Ladysmith during the siege and afterwards on the march to Pretoria. He also describes various travels abroad. Richard Goldmann (born 1861) 'was director of several mines, a member of the Johannesburg city council from 1904 to 1907, served on a number of committees such as the Witwatersrand Water Board, and was member of the Transvaal Legislative Assembly for Newtown.' - DSAB IV p 188.
