Wisteria Press fourth book is a volume of powerful original poetry: Soyinkas first since the widely acclaimed collection, Mandelas Earth (1988). Wole Soyinka has lived in exile from Nigeria since 1994 under a threat of death (which was only recently rescinded). He reflects in these seven poems written during this period on his own alienation in the presence of tyranny; the effects of the despotism in Nigeria on its children; the virus of loss,creativity and dispossession. The 36 page book is letterpress printed in three colors by Dwight Agner of The Press of the Nightowl and is illustrated with an original engraved frontispiece portrait of Soyinka by Barry Moser. Dr. Rudolph Byrd, chairman of the African-American Studies Program at Emory University, contributes an introduction. There are 250 numbered and 26 lettered copies offered for sale.
