This decorative plate features the fabled city of Lovango in the Congo, West Africa. The central vignette birds-eye view of the town above bears descriptive notes below. Each side bears 5 further vignettes each of the natives and customs of the region. It was published in the sixth volume of the encyclopaedic atlas by Henri Abraham Chatelain (1684-1743) entitled 'Atlas Historique ou Nouvelle Introduction a l'Histoire, a la Chronologie & a la Geographie'.
