Nicely printed, with decorative headpieces and the title printed in black and red. Crébillon, son of the French (melo-?)dramatist of the same name, wrote novels and dialogues that reflect the moral laxity of his day. La Sopha, for example, tells the experiences of a man transformed by metempsychosis into a sofa, and the scandalous adventures that take place on it. His other works include L'Ecumoire (1733) and La Nuit et le moment (1755). He was like his father, one of the dramatic censors of the French government.A scarce book, with OCLC reporting five copies (Yale, Harvard, Princeton, U. of Pa. and Oxford).
