Juan Antonio Llorente (1765-1823) was a Spanish Priest and Historian, he joined the Napoleonic forces in Spain in 1808, assisting in the work of suppressing the monastic orders, while assiduously collecting the documentation and primary sources which went into this volume, which he published in France in 1817, shortly thereafter translated into English, Dutch, Italian, and German.
