The Jews did not confine their demands merely to emigration; they connected them with the complex questions of Jewish national homelessness. Their demand was not limited to socio-economic assistance; they wanted a deeper look into the causes which had decimated the Jewish people to a degree and in a manner never before experienced by any other people in the world. In short, they did not present the international community with another refugee problem, or a Jewish Displaced Persons problem, but rather with the problem of the security of the entire Jewish people as revealed by the Holocaust. They sought a national-historical meaning for the Jewish fate during this period- and they found it in the struggle for the establishment of the State of Israel. ” SUBJECT (S) : World War, 1939-1945 -- Concentration camps -- Liberation.
