Fine engraved frontispiece and title, with allegorical figures and scenes in architectural frames, dated 1660, the date of the first edition. With two additional plates of prophets. Allestree, a Royalist clergyman whose loyalty was rewarded at the Restoration with the post of Chaplain to the King, was also credited with authorship of the influential "The Whole Duty of Man" (London, Garthwait, 1658). Here the "Gentleman's calling" demands greater virtue because of his advantages. Internally fine in early panelled calf, uniformly darkened and abraded. (BL 1473.b.45)., Fine
