Arriving in Colorado Springs, his transformation from tenderfoot into cowboy began when he took a job as a hand on a large dry ranch which was located forty-five miles to the norhteast, one which chombined cattle raining with hay and grain. In a couple of years he moved over to Breed, Colorado where he worked on a straight cow ranch.
