No date, circa 1830s -1880s. Card measures 4 1/2" x 3 1/2"; paper measures 7 5/8" x 9." Card reads: "T. S. Arthur." Card, paper, and signature are very clean and intact. Timothy Shay Arthur was an American writer and poet who was popular in his time. He is known for his sentimental writings that esteem moral values and proper decorum. Arthur wrote over 100 works, published and edited his own magazine, Arthur's Home Magazine, and wrote the novel, Ten Nights in a Bar-Room and What I Saw There (1854) which was part of the Temperance movement..
