This is the first of sixteen titles in the Barton Books for Girls series from the Stratemeyer Syndicate. The prolific W. Bert Foster is credited by some sources as the ghostwriter for this series. From the publisher, 1926, "Laura was the oldest of five children and when daddy got sick she felt she must do something.
