Spines darkened, extremities rubbed, and labels chipped or missing, moderate foxing throughout. Beranger (1780-1857), a beloved people's poet, witnessed the capture of the Bastille as a schoolboy, and was imprisoned twice for revolutionary activities and for the staunch Republicanism of his poems.
