Poems are by Yiddish poet Isaac Berliner, accompanied by the Rivera illustrations as well as a portrait of the poet by the artist. Diego Rivera was a friend of Berliner. Isaac Berliner (1899-1957) , a poet from Lodz, immigrated to Mexico in 1922. His poems, some of which deal with political and social issues, influenced many Mexican artists, including Diego Rivera (1886-1957) as well as Rivera's wife, the artist Frida Kahlo.
