6 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches. Three lines from his poem "The Voice of the Mountain" signed in full. "Ashland Or, April 15, 1891"added in the authors hand below signature. Clark (1830-1897) was a singer, songwriter and poet. He was born in New York and lived his later years on the West Coast of the U.S. He is best known for his songs that he wrote which were popular during the Civil War. These include: "Beautiful Hills" (1862); "Children of the Battlelfield" (1864); "Let Me Die with My Face to the Foe" (1864). Clark was an abolitionist and active in radical causes of the day..
