Felix Octavius Carr Darley (1822-1888) was an American watercolorist and illustrator, known for his illustrations in the works of many prominent 19th century authors. This volume is a collection of his illustrations for Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" accompanied by the excerpt from the novel describing the scene. From note opposite on back of title page: "The illustrations contained in this volume have been reproduced by the Heliotype process, from Mr. Darley's original drawings".
