[June 1927] First British Edition hardcover, no dustjacket. Published in London by John Murray. Red cloth, gilt lettering; border in blind on top cover; 320 printed pages. Condition of binding: Lightly age toned/faint soiling, spine darken; shelf wear. Joints have minor wear; rear joint has two light bumps and ½-inch tear to top. Edges: Age toned/foxed (darken at top edge). Endpapers: Offsetting to free endpapers. Preliminaries: Minor foxing. Pages: Soft corner creases, else Near Fine - clean and readable. Overall, book is Very Good. Free of bookplates, stickers, writing in text, and significant page tears. Text is clear, very readable. Not a former library book. Both the British and American first editions were published at the same time. This British edition is preferred by collectors. In the British title, Case-Book is hyphenated; the American edition has it in two words, Case Book. Later publishers released the book with Casebook as a single word. This British edition does not present the stories in the order they were published. The 12 stories, first published in Strand Magazine, October 1921 and April 1927, include The Adventure of the Illustrious Client, The Adventure of the Three Gables, and The Adventures of the Creeping Man. This is the author's final collection of short stories featuring the master detective Sherlock Holmes. A collectible book, published in London.
