Original typescript of this novel set in the Uhuru period. 408pp. single face double-space typescript, with numerous manuscriprt corrections presumably in the author's hand. Bound in black buckram, and in fine state. Erika Johnston was the daughter of Kenya pioneer Lalle Ekman. Erika Johnston spent her childhood in East Africa and farmed, with her husband, in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Married to Robin Johnston, ex Administrative Officer of the Colonial Service and a distinguished fighter pilot, they left at the time of Tanzania's independence. Her life is recounted in her autobiography, "The Other Side of Kilimanjaro" (1971). ,She was a scriptwriter for the SABC during the 1960s, during which time she wrote numerous radio plays and stories, including “The Enchanted Trumpet”, which she has adapted and renamed as Mlozi, the Animal Wizard.
