In New York he headed the successful Metivta Tiferet Jerusalem yeshiva. After WWII, and the death of Aaron Kotler, Feinstein became the leader of American Orthodoxy. "While he did address broader, communal issues throughout his lifetime, his major impact was in the realm of Halakhah. His reputation grew rapidly to the point that his rulings were accepted as authoritative by Orthodox Jews throughout the world. " When he died in 1986, more than 150.000 people attended his funeral.
