Original lightly gray cloth with black designs and gilt lettering on front cover and spine. 5 X 7 1/2 inches. 336 pages. 10 black and white illustrations. 1st "consolidated" edition of author's other two books. Fitzgerald (1829-1911) wa a Methodist clergyman, journalist and educator. Coming to California on a missionary assignment in1855, he settled in Sonora, Tuolumne County. In 1867 he was elected Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of California. A previous owner wrote on the front inside cover the following, "This book belonged to my sister Mrs. N.A. Nooley. Given to me by her daughter Mrs. Matt Scruggs. My sister passed away Apr. 18, 1934" A nameplate below this inscriptions has the name of "M. Osborn". Several pages are slightly soiled. Page 178-179 have a soiled mark, approx 4 inches long along spine. Some soiling marks on both cover.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good.
