"In many ways this book is a sequel to his 'Medicine and Custom in Africa' which was published in 1964. The thoughts expressed in that book for the new medical school at Salisbury were based largely on his knowledge of the Shona people who are the principal inhabitants of his area. In years of painstaking effort, he has amplified, and where necessary corrected, his earlier knowledge and views. I have seen him at work surrounded by a small group of tribal elders sitting on hour after hour listening and asking questions and quite oblivious to heat and hunger. Having seen this I know that the information which he is leaving to posterity is as nearly an accurate reflection of dying customs and traditions as it is possible for a person of another culture to report. He is known and trusted by the Shona people as one of their great guides and sympathisers." Click here for full details of this book, to ask a question or to buy it on-line.
