This copy signed by the author by way of a title-specific bookplate pasted to the front free endpaper. 8vo. 574pp. Brown boards lettered and ruled in gold at the spine. Some bruising to the backstrip ends, spotting to the edges, and a little chafing to the base of the boards. An almost very good copy, in virtually fine state internally, housed in the dust wrapper with the publisher's adhesive price label to the base of the front flap. The wrapper lightly faded at the spine panel and with a touch of wear to the spine panel ends. The author's first non-Flashman novel, yet still tangentially connected to his Flashman series via an appearance by an octogenarian General Flashman ("I attribute my longevity to an almost total abstinence from tea").
