GRAHAM,WINSTON**: : THE BLACK MOON: A Novel of Cornwall 1794-5

LONDON.COLLINS,1973.

ISBN 0002210967.

UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn.[True UK HB+dw/dj, 1st edn,and not the GROSSLY and ridiculously overpriced (£372 or £176,and prices in between, down to £158,for the UK,Macmillan,1996 item listed by most megasellers or A-listers on another well-known,infamous site! Even a UK Book Club edition followed the original 1st edn,in 1975,before those items/edns!] FINE/NFINE.No owner inscrptn but price-clip to dw/dj with 'ghost' residue of publisher's adhesive price sticker; just above the diagonal clip of price removal,to the front inner flap.Bright, crisp, clean, glossy laminated, scenic colour photographic illustrated front panel of dw/dj,with red, white and grey(?) lettering, red lettered critic's review to rear plain black panel; with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks or tears present. Some slight, minor but minimal chipping - due to laminate breaking down - to both head+foot of spine/backstrip,a small closed tear to front, lower corner - with no loss.Rear panel of dw/dj also has light scoring and indentations - without penetration and without affecting the bds beneath.Top+fore-edges very lightly aged - as usual/normal - but generally bright and clean; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - near pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners, appears unread - apart from my own collation.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,publisher's original plain dark maroon cloth bds with bright, crisp, stamped gilt letters to spine/backstrip and immaculate khaki eps illustrated with Poldark,Carne and Chynoweth family tree charts.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,11-477pp [paginated] includes Books 1-3 comprising 12,8,and 13 chapters respectively. In Book Three: signature in right order, sequence and with correct, continuous pagination, but probably with the WRONG chapter numeration; Chapter 13 follows Chapter 11 and precedes Chapter 12 which is the wrong final chapter, plus[unpaginated] half-title+title pages,a dedication,Books' Pts separator pages and 2pp blanks at the rear.Described hard, but fairly and honestly - nowhere as bad as it reads or would sound - just probably too detailed a description! Author's 5th POLDARK novel. Author's new (then 1973),and 5th Poldark novel; written 20 years after the last of the four original Poldark novels (Warleggan,1953). Want more Winston GRAHAM titles? For similar and other available titles - please search my MODERN FIRSTS2 catalogue. After finishing the first four Poldark novels, the author found himself more interested in the techniques of suspense, as world bestsellers such as 'The Walking Stick (see my book ID rja631116),and 'Angell,Pearl and Little God' richly testify. But Graham, whose novels have always shown his mastery of the unexpected, now found himself in its grip."One day last year (1972?)," he writes,"for no discoverable reason,it became necessary for me to see what happened to these Poldarks and Warleggans after Christmas night,1793. 'The Black Moon' is the result." It is one which will delight his vast public, for although it can be read completely independently of the earlier volumes, the skilful interlacing of Poldarks and Warleggans continues. As the Carnes and the Chynoweths enrich the pattern,it becomes evident that this fifth volume in the Poldark saga has in it all those elements of suspense which have so fascinated Mr Graham in the modern world, and all that sense of history,of humour and of pathos that lovers of the earlier Poldark novels have come to expect. Since April 2013,again in March 2015,and in this year too,the UK Post Office has altered it's Pricing in Proportion template, altering it's prices, weight allowances, dimensions and lowered it's qualifying compensation rates too! So,please contact seller, for correct, insured shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page!
