"Compliments of the author, Cordia Greer-Petrie" inscribed in black ink by the author on the first flyleaf. Cordia Greer-Petrie (1872-1964) was an author from Kentucky who is perhaps best-known for writing about her character, Angeline, and her adventures. Contains two stories, "Angeline at the Seelbach" and "Angeline Steppin' Out," the latter of which is a sequel to the first. Excerpt from the back: "'Angeline,' a typical Kentucky hill woman, has made her appearance in the newspapers before this; she is a skillfully executed comic character, and 'Lum,' her husband, is equally as good. Mrs. Petrie knows her Kentucky hills, for Angeline's dialect has the very essence of the soil, and her shrewd and racy comment upon the contrast of the rural society with which she is familiar with the urban is worth reading for more reasons than that it is amusing. It is an excellent reflection of the life of these backwoods Americans, whom we city dwellers so frequently lost sight of in discussing this country and its problems. This chapter of Angeline's adventures takes her to Louisville, where she and Lum put up at 'Mr. and Mrs. Seelbach's Hotel,' where they go to the theatre to see a performance of 'Othello,' where they do society, and have numerous other highly entertaining adventures. Later they go to Chicago for more excitement.". Book. Book Condition: Fine. Binding: Soft cover Click here for full details of this book, to ask a question or to buy it on-line.
