First Edition. The scarce original edition of this work. A very good copy indeed in the original red cloth gilt, spine faded and spotted. A fine inscribed presentation/association copy, being inscribed on the inside front board to "A.G.Butler from the author". Butler knew Rhodes as an undergraduate at Oxford, and his reminiscences of Rhodes appear on pp. 22 - 25 of the book. The book is also inscribed on the half title "with the author's compliments. Howard Hensman 30.1.02"
