UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn.FINE/VG-.Owner's handwritten initials and later date (December 1931) to front free endpaper,no clip to dw/dj - absence of publisher's price - possibly an export edn, generally believed to precede the UK trade edn issue.Bright,crisp,matt,vibrant,multi-colour pictorial artwork by Cecil Beaton, illustrated front panel and spine/ backstrip of dw/dj with black lettering to front panel and slightly sunned/faded spine/backstrip,rear panel with lightly grubbed, white background with publisher's advert for other published titles. With negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners,a small triangular portion approx.1" high by 3/4" wide loss, affecting part of publisher's name,to rear, lower edge.Small single dents noted to each top+bottom of both front+rear boards, with a single bruise/dent to rear board's fore-edge.Minimal creasing to top, rear edges along with two small closed tears at spine's top front+rear gutter's crease/folds and a tiny closed tear further along the top edge, rear lower corner minimally bumped with rubbing and some chipping loss,no other major nicks, tears or splits present.Top edges slightly discoloured through dust-soiling but without foxing/spotting,fore-edges particularly brighter and also without any foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight, exceptionally clean - almost pristine - solid and sound,no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - appears unread apart from my own collation.Bright, crisp, clean,sharp-cornered - aforementioned rear corner excepted, publisher's original brown background with gold colour repeated star shapes,paper-covered boards/covers with a dark brown cloth blind-spine with blocked gilt lettering to same, and clean plain white eps - the only detraction to them both,is the ubiquitous and inevitable off-set shadowing from dw/dj's inner flaps to respective verso+rectos of both free endpapers. UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,1- 1219pp [paginated] includes XXVII (27) chapters with profuse scenic, thumbnail b/w line illustrations by Hubert Williams, half-title,scenic b/w line illustrated, tissue-guarded frntis with production fault of a small, narrow, elliptical hole with concomitant portion stuck to title page,a title page,an initialled dedication, contents list/table and to the rear,2pp blank with printers details to its recto.Author's debut work, book,a fictional Andorran travelogue.
An exceptional item,in it's cleanliness and the dw/dj's near entirety because of the fragility of paper used, and with little detraction from either. Exceptionally scarce with dw/dj present.
