Two original inscribed photographs, dated 1937 (7 3/4 x 9 3/4 inch). One photograph showing Sir Hugo Hirst and inscribed by him. One photograph, showing Lady Hirst is also signed by her. Also included are three related items: a) A printed photograph of sir Hugo (3 1/4 x 4 1/2 inch b/w) mounted on a Christmas Card; b) a printed engraving of Sir Hugo's home (4 1/2 x 7 inch, b/w) 'Fox Hill' near Reading in Southern England, sent as part of a Christmas Card (1929); c) an offprint from "Mayfair" Magazine (c.1920s, 2 pages in wrappers - 10 x 15 inch, that gives a brief biography of Sir Hugo and also has printed reproduction of a color portrait of him. Sir Hugo Hirst (1863-1943) was the co-founder of the General Electric Company, Ltd. in the United Kingdom. He started the company in 1886 with Gustav Byng. Hirst served as the longtime chairman and managing director of the company, which dealt in consumer, defense, and communication electronics. During the 20th Century it grew into bing one of England's largest companies. Hirst was born in Bavaria and immigrated to London in 1880, Married Leontine Hirsch (d.1938) in 1892. He was the first and last Baronet Hirst, given in 1925 and Baron Hirst in 1934 along with making his wife a Baroness. Both photographs, by Fayer of Vienna and London show the Hirsts in royal robes and fineries. Sir Hugo inscribes his photo "To my dear friend Siegfried" He signs the photo "Hirst" and dates it 12 May 1937( the friend referred to is Siegfried Berstle. Lady Hirst's photograph is signed "With Love, Kini" The photograph is also dated 12 May 1937. The photographs were in all probability signed in conjunction with the coronation of George VI (1895-1952) on May 12, 1937, following the abdication of Edward VIII (1894-1972).
