First unexpurgated edition. Limited edition. No. 2162 of 2300 copies. Original publisher's white cloth binding with multicolored illustrated dust wrapper in mylar. Famous dust wrapper by Paul Wenck. Dust wrapper shows an orange and yellow woman dancing as she appears to twirl a transparent veil midair. Back panel of dust wrapper has a vignette with a silver-colored border that contains a review by H. L. Mencken commending the nove. "2162" is stamped at the top of the vignette and is also stamped on the inside. Gilt lettering on front cover and spine of book. 6" x 8 1/8." 310 pages, complete. Former ownership bookplate of W. Fargher tipped in on front pastedown that shows a shelf with books, flowers, and a model ship. "To Ralph Potts" is inscribed at the top of the bookplate in black ink. Dust wrapper and pages and covers of book are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. Dust wrapper has a few small holes on the back panel that look like puncture marks and there is slight chipping at the top and bottom of the spine. Dust wrapper is not price-clipped. No remainder marks. A Fine book in a Very Good dust wrapper. A novel in which the author talks about love, sex, religion, and different parts of life. James Gibbons Huneker(1857-1921) was an American critic of art, literature, music, and theater. Painted Veils is his only novel.
