Surgeon Rear-Admiral Thomas Tendron Jeans, C.M.G., R.N.,entered the Royal Navy as a surgeon in 1894.He retired as Surgeon Rear-Admiral January 19,1926.He served in the South African war of 1899-1900,in the Orange Free State,and in the Great War 1914-1918,serving on the Dardanelles and on the Suez Canal.
He was editor and co-author of Naval Brigades in the South African War,1899- 1900.He was also a writer of sea life in the Navy,the last being published in 1913.
William H. Rainey (1852-1936).Born in London.Studied at South Kensington School of Art and at the Royal Academy Schools.A landscape amd figure painter in watercolour,and author and illustrator of children's books published principally by BLACKIE AND SON,LIMITED.As a watercolourist,he won medals at the Chicago (1893) and Paris (1900) exhibitions.His delicate brush strokes reproduced well in both colour and half-tone.Thorpe considered him a great but unrecognised illustrator who was 'never conventional in his designs,had a fine sense of character,and maintained the interes throughout the whole of the drawing.Elected RI (1891),ROI (1932.Died at Eastbourne, Sussex.
