JERNEGAN, Marcus W. COLONIAL EDUCATION AND SLAVERY, A BOUND COLLECTION OF EIGHT EXTRACTS AND OFFPRINTS, THREE OF WHICH ARE INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO SAMUEL ELIOT MORISON. Various publishers, dated 1897-1920. Approximately 220 pp. Octavo, black cloth binding, with the author's name and "Colonial Education and Slavery" stamped on spine. Bookplate of historian Samuel Eliot Morison on front pastedown, with some brief notes and bracketing of text by him in the first few articles. Ex library, with only a small blind embossed seal and an ink stamp on ffep., and no other marks. Cloth is lightly soiled and stained, but sound. Except for Morison's notes and marks in the first few articles, the text is clean. Marcus W. Jernegan (1872-1849) was born into a whaling family and grew up on Martha's Vineyard. He was a professor of History at the University of Chicago and authored a number of books on American history. This compilation offers a good selection, including some scarce pamphlets, and is in very good condition overall.
