Manuscript document signed and dated August 1874 (8 x 12 1/2 inch), one page. Henry Johnson (1819-1895) was a longtime Muncy, Pa lawyer. in 1860 he was elected to the Pennsylvania State Senate, eventually rising to the position of chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. From this position he shepherded a bill through the state Senate that eventually allowed Pennsylvania soldiers during the civil war to vote from where they were stationed. Some attribute the passage of this bill to Abraham Lincoln winning the state of Pennsylvania in the 1864 election. Henry Johnson also served as a soldier in the Civil War. In this manuscript document, in Johnson's hand and signed by him (1874), he is representing John P. Opp before the Court of Common Pleas.
