Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name held at the James Watrous Gallery, Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters Madison, Wisconsin in 2011. The exhibition was re-presented in 2013 on the occasion of the 12th Anniversary of 9/11. Presents Lewis Koch's "Bomber, A Chance Unwinding". An "exploration of a World War II crash site, a meditation on the ultimate futility of war, and on the importance of memory, grieving, and healing". Koch "uses photography, found images, maps, and text to engage in a critical response to contemporary life and politics. Bears witness to a World War II bomber crash site above the treeline in Wyoming's Cloud Peak Wilderness, a remote area that Koch describes as 'almost inconceivably stark and humbling'. Linking his own photographs of the site with images from documentary films, details of period maps, and poetry, this installation is a reflection on a particular tragedy as well as a metaphor for the societal devastation and environmental destruction caused by war" (Publisher's blrub). Koch is an artist's artist who makes photographic works, site-specific installations, and sculptural assemblage. He has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, in which countries his work is in the Permanent Collections of major museums. He isn't as well-known as Ed Ruscha (although he deserves to be). Like Ruscha, he makes his own Artist Books from scratch: From concept to image to design to full realization. An absolute "must-have" title for Lewis Koch collectors. This copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed, placed, and dated in black ink-pen on the Back Limitation Page by the artist/photographer: "Lewis Koch Madison, WI 2016". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a contemporary Artist Book classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed, placed, and dated copy of the First Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. One of the most brilliant American artist/photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER LEWIS KOCH AND ED RUSCHA TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).
