OCLC lists 23 copies worldwide. MARCUS, JACOB RADER. Marcus (1896-1996) graduated from the University of Cincinnati, Hebrew Union College, where he also taught, and the University of Berlin. In the 1940s, he was instrumental in establishing American Jewish history as an academic discipline, founding the American Jewish Archives at Hebrew Union College and the American Jewish Periodical Center. (EJ, Chyet) Wise (1819-1900) , who was born in Bohemia and emigrated to the United States in 1843, was a Reform rabbi. Beginning as a rabbi in Albany, New York, Wise “introduc[ed] reforms such as mixed pews, choral singing, and confirmation, designed to improve public worship. ” Outside of his own congregations, he worked towards a unity of American Jews, and several unsuccessful attempts culminated in the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, and the establishment of Hebrew Union College.
