Original autographed poetry manuscript by Issac McLellan. Circa 1870's. Springs, Long Island. 2 pages. 7 3/4 X 12 inches. 75 lines. McLellan (186-1899) was an American poet, author and sportsman. After an early career in law and journalism in Boston, he lived the later half of his life on Long Island, New York and wrote verse and propose for the major sporting journals of the day, such as Turf, Field and Farm, Forrest and Stream and American Angler. The Icebergs Adrift On The Ocean" is a poem about an encounter between a whaling ship and an iceberg with the majesty of the iceberg much described. The poem apparently was not published in book form as many other McLellan poems were. A small closed torn spot is on the upper portion of the paper. Light foxing. Poem has been folded.. Book.
