Portland Chamber of Commerce : An Appreciation, Portland, Oregon

Portland Chamber of Commerce?, Portland, OR?

Original publisher's white paper folding brochure with black lettering and black, pink, and white illustration on front panel. No date, circa 1923. 4" x 9 3/4" (folded). Unpaginated (folds open into four panels printed on front and back). A few small black-and-white photographic illustrations included. Brochure is very clean and intact overall but has light age toning, a few vertical creases, and eight rusted holes (likely from a pin or staple) at the top (barely affecting text). A Very Good copy. Promotional brochure about Portland, Oregon. Printed on front panel: "Reprinted from the International Percenter of Los Angeles by the Publicity Department, Portland Chamber of Commerce." This brochure contains a laudatory article promoting Portland, the "City of Roses." The article describes Portland as "The Superlative City!" and relays a (possibly fictional) anecdote about Mr. and Mrs. Timothy B. Smith and their family and how they found their true home in Portland after moving from the Midwest. The article acknowledges its brevity and proceeds to briefly convey the "best" attributes of Portland. First, the article promotes Portland as a "home city" filled with beautiful homes and featuring a high rate of homeownership among its citizens. The next part promotes Portland's 99% pure "Bull Run" water; healthy natural environment; low death rate; parks, playgrounds, golf courses, "auto campgrounds," and swimming "tanks"; libraries; and high-quality medical schools and facilities. Featured next is Portland's harbor, extolled as being the only freshwater harbor on the Pacific Coast. On the verso of the brochure (when opened) is the rest of the article which describes Portland's lumber industry, city wealth, beautiful scenery, and world's largest rose garden. Following this is a brief list of Portland statistics, one of which shows the number of ships entered into Portland Harbor in 1923. Also included are a few small black-and-white photographic illustrations of different scenes in and around Portland such as Mr. Hood, an example of a quintessential Portland house complete with rose gardens, a campground, city view with Mt. Hood in the background, Columbia River Highway, and a golf course.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: No Binding
