In 1813 Europe lay in utter confusion as a result of the Napoleonic disasters in Russia. This was obviously the crucial moment for England to come to the aid of any allies she could find on the continent, and Major Peter Maclean was chosen to help tip the scales in North Germany.Put ashore on the Baltic coast by a frigate of the Royal Navy,he could be given no clear directive but had been instructed to improvise his plans as events developed. The speed with which they developed was unexpected even by this veteran of intrigue and undercover missions for Wellington in the Peninsular War.But aided by his Spanish bride, Christina, and their manservant he learned, before it was too late, who were England's friends and in the end effectively took the measure of a substantial group of her enemies. Peter Maclean's adventures in the little principality of Zarsburg-Wittelin make a tale of brave deeds and high excitement;of romance, suspense and the final test of pitched battle. This is a further Peter Maclean story by John Redmayne.
