Reifenberg (1899-1953) was born in Berlin, and was educated as an agricultural chemist at Giessen University. He moved to Israel after WWI, and worked as an agricultural laborer, as an agricultural chemist for the government, and founded the soil sciences department at Hebrew University. Aside from his pursuits in the hard sciences, he was an archaeologist and numismatist. “He built up one of the finest collections of Palestinian and ancient Jewish coins (presented after his death to the State of Israel) , and in 1951 became the first president of the Israel Numismatic Society. Together with L. A. Mayer, he examined several ancient synagogues such as the one at Eshtemo'a (Samoa) , south of Hebron, and that of Naveh in Hauran. ”(EJ) Ex library, very good condition.
