Frontispiece and additional illustrations throughout text. Condition: Top cover looks like it detached at one time and former owner had it crudely affixed back to its original position (some old glue can be seen at split/spine). Heavy wear to spine/ridges/joints with some loss of gilt. Small pieces of leather chipped off at top of spine (headband/bottom band worn away). Shelf wear, rubbed marks, abrasion, etc. to leather. Bookplate (with the word "prize"). Inscription (dated 1903) on back of first free endpaper. Rear blank pages reflect foxing, etc. Light age toning. Text and illustrations are in remarkably Very Good Plus condition. Text very readable, illustrations clear and vivid. No writing in text or torn pages. This is not a facsimile, actually the first hardcover edition in leather. The work addresses British seas written by W.
