No owner inscrptn,and an absence of publisher price.Bright,crisp,clean green cloth to front board and spine with crisp, bright,non-oxidised,blocked silver gilt-lettered part-title and similarly silver gilt-lettered but capitalised sub-title,and with an approx. 5" x 5" centered,colour pictorial,paper onlay of a pair of silhouetted,white doves with an overlaid red,velvet bow's ribbons in their beaks,against a green background with a horizontal purple band/strip at onlay's lower edge.Spine/ backstrip lightly sunned/faded but with crisp, bright non-oxidised,blocked,silver gilt-lettered part-title,capitalised silver gilt-lettered author name at head and publisher's blocked silver gilt creature silhouette,respectively to foot of same,rear board with two-tone green paper-covered board design/illustration,with 2 silhouetted,coloured pears and a silhouetted white dove in flight,with working,battery integrated compartment - battery illuminates the Christmas tree pop-up's decorations on the last of the internal pop-ups.Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no nicks,tears or splits present,but front board's gutter's crease with an inward extending 55mm long top edge of a scalene triangle (no sides of equal length) shape,decreasing and narrowing in area,as it descends towards the foot of said gutter - forming a triangular shaped,lightly sunned faded area.Contents bright,tight and clean,all pop-ups complete and working fully,just a tiny tear at top,right-hand attachment/anchorage point of the Christmas tree pop-up.UK,8vo HB,Pop-up,1st edn, [unpaginated],but with 7 double-page colour backgrounds with white pop-ups,2 of the double-pages use the pastedowns to support the pop-up,each double-page with 2 pop-ups with the exception of the extra,last,rear Christmas tree pop-up.The first pop-up appears as the page is opened and on the opposing page,a second pop-up is revealed by opening the flap there - verses of the song in white lettering.               Visually the exterior appearance is more than acceptable and particularly internally,is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation,for a book of its near-20 year-old age and nature, i.e. an ephemeral pop-up book and as a child's book.It is only the minimal faults described that prevents a slightly higher overall grading.Despite those,it really is still an exceptional,exemplary example for its cleanliness,brightness and lack of other major detracting faults.Described hard but fairly and honestly.                                        Robert Sabuda is to pop-up art what the International Grandmaster is to chess,and it isn't for nothing that he's described on the back of this book as a "paper engineer." As the title suggests,this whimsical,old-fashioned,elegant book embodies the traditional song - each verse of "The 12 Days of Christmas" is illustrated with a different pop-up creation using colourful, solid backgrounds with white pop-ups, gold foil, acetate, mylar, and a one-of-a-kind pop-up snow globe.Some are relatively simple, such as the partridge (made from two pieces of hinged paper) that opens its wings above some pears.Still, there is something unexpectedly bold about how the bird literally flies out over the top margin of the page.Other pop-ups are more characteristically bravura creations: the "Ten pipers piping" are crafted explicitly as decorative paper cut-outs, but the scissors that cut them are part of the pop-up, too.Perhaps the most complex of the set is "Eleven Ladies Dancing." Interpreted as an old-fashioned music box, the 11 ladies dancing are little ballerinas, and the music box is complete with drawer, back-mirror, and winding key. American-born, a graduate of the Pratt Institute, and trained as a children’s book illustrator,Sabuda found his early inspiration in pop-up books from the works of Vojtech Kubašta - see my book IDs' rja1030022, rja1030122,rja10303231 and rja1030822 for examples - made books as a hobby in childhood.  He published his first pop-up books in 1994, including one that he authored under the pseudonym “Thomas Beach.”  Since then his award-winning designs have won him a deserved position at the pinnacle of contemporary paper engineering.                                      Please contact seller,for correct shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas customers - BEFORE ordering through the order page!          N.B.
